Pastor Gary began his ministry here at First in January of 2007 after serving as US Navy Staff Chaplain at Naval Air Station Kingsville, TX.  He was Minister of Administration/Education and Students at First Baptist Church in Portland, Texas for six years. He is a graduate of Logsdon School of Theology (Hardin-Simmons) where he received his Master of Divinity.  He is also a graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, TX where he received Master of Arts in Religious Education.  He received his BAS in Christian Ministry from East Texas Baptist University, in Marshall, TX.

Pastor Gary places a strong emphasis on evangelism, discipleship and growing a church through strong ministry and family relationships.

His wife, Lynn, is a computer programmer for the Education Service Center Region 20 in San Antonio. They have three sons, Austen, who is a student at Baylor; Addison who is a sophomore at New Braunfels Christian Academy and Aaron who is eighth grade at New Braunfels Christian Academy.

Howdy!  I am so glad so stopped by the website.  We would love to have you visit us at First Baptist Church Schertz.  Our worship time is focused on worshipping and praising the one true God and celebrating the grace and redemption that comes from the Savior, Christ Jesus.  We simply seek to worship God in spirit and truth...with joy and thanksgiving.  Casual or dressed-up just come to worship...

Tracy Dietz - Preschool Director

Hi, my name is Tracy Dietz and I am the director of Schertz First Baptist Preschool.  I am new to this position and am learning all of the wonderful things that make this school run.  I received my Bachelors Degree in Education, with a specialization in Early Childhood, from Texas State University.  My Masters Degree is in Educational Leadership and I received it at UTSA. 

I have been in public education for the last 16 years.  My first seven years were spent teaching kindergarten, then four years in second, one in fourth, and finally four years as a Vice Principal at an elementary school. 

My husband, Wade, is a firefighter in Austin.  We have three boys, Darin who is 9, Landen who is 7 and Hayden who is 4. 

I am extremely excited about being a part of this amazing school and I look forward to working with you to help your children grow. 

Valorie Mayfield - Secretary

Valorie joined First Baptist Church of Schertz in 2006. At the time, she was employed at Texas State University in San Marcos. She was the administrative assistant for the Department of Agriculture. Valorie retired from Texas State in March of 2009 with 24 years of service. About that time, coincidentally, the church was in need of a secretary. Valorie joined the church staff in April 2009. Creativity and publications are a favorite for her and those tasks receive a lot of attention. She resides in Schertz, Texas with her son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Lisa Luker, and her 7 year old granddaughter, Shelby.
